Pair of Hilltopper Middle Hitters Earn CUSA Weekly Awards

DALLAS, Texas — Conference USA announced volleyball’s slate of weekly award winners Monday, as the No. 23 Tops earned their fifth-straight and ninth of 10 possible CUSA regular season titles with a two-match series sweep over FIU in the Hilltopppers‘ home finale. Freshman middle hitters, Logan Grevengoed and Izzy Van De Wiele took care of business with stellar offensive and defensive productions, earning the league’s Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman Player of the Week, respectfully.

A total of 14 block assists from the middle, Grevengoed averaged 2.00 blocks/set, leading CUSA and WKU on the defensive side of the net through the weekend. She is currently the Tops’ blocks leader on the season, with 99 stuffs at the net this year and she hit the 100-career blocks mark in WKU’s claim of the regular season title.

Off of a .406 hitting clip, Van De Wiele produced the second-highest percentage of all CUSA freshmen last week, while producing 16 kills from the middle. The Iowa native averaged 1.00 blocks a set, totaling six assists and a solo stuff, getting her first career back-to-back career starts in the Tops’ weekend sweep of FIU.
