Lady Toppers defeat Lane College 100-37 in home exhibition

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU women’s basketball defeated Lane College in an exhibition matchup Tuesday night in Diddle Arena, 100-37. 

Six different Lady Toppers recorded double-figure scoring totals. Newcomer Nevaeh Foster had 17, including a 3-5 night from beyond the arc. WKU scored 35 points in transition, notching 21 total steals on the night. Sophomore Acacia Hayes led the way for WKU racking up five steals in 18 minutes of gametime. 

WKU also managed 44 rebounds, 35 of which came on the defensive glass.

A Karris Allen three got the scoring started in the first thirty seconds. Going into the first media break, the Lady Toppers had forced seven turnovers, leading 12-4. Hayes then grabbed a defensive board, going coast to coast and followed it up with a steal and lay-up. Her four-point flurry was part of a 15-0 run from the 7:15 mark to the 53 second mark. At the first quarter break WKU led 31-8. 

Hayes led the team with eight points in the quarter to go along with three steals, a third of the team’s nine total forced turnovers.

The Dragons connected first in the second with a jumper, The Lady Toppers responded with a pair of made free throws from Teresa Faustino. WKU hit the fifty-point mark following a triple from Allen and led 50-17 with 4:15 left in the period. This marked the second straight three-pointer for The Red and White. The Lady Toppers added 10 more points going into the locker room with a 60-21 advantage at the half.

WKU forced 21 total turnovers in the half. Hayes had four of the team’s 13 steals. Hayes and Josie Gilvin each had 11 points in the first half leading the way on the offensive end for the Lady Toppers. 

Hayes picked up where she left off to start the third, poking away a steal and laying it in for the first basket of the second half. Odeth Betancort’s second steal of the night dished off to Faustino and gave the Lady Toppers a 74-28 lead with 2:45 remaining in the period. 

A triple from Mackenzie Chatfield hit the century mark for WKU and the Lady Toppers went on to win 100-37.
