Erwin Named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer fifth year forward Katie Erwin was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Erwin scored the game-winning goal for WKU in a 1-0 win at Liberty on Saturday.

Erwin’s goal came against a Flames defense that had given up just seven goals in 15 games before Saturday’s match. The goal led WKU to a 1-0 win, propelling the Lady Toppers to second place in the league standings and giving WKU the chance at a share of the CUSA regular season title against New Mexico State on Friday night at the WKU Soccer Complex.

The Louisville, Kentucky native leads WKU in goals scored this season with six on the year. Erwin is up to 16 career goals, which puts her just two away from breaking into the top 10 all-time at WKU. Her 45 career points are just three away from the top 10 and her four career game-winning goals are two away from the top 10. She’s also two goals away from the top 10 most goals scored in a season at WKU.

It is Erwin’s second weekly honor of the season. She was previously named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19 this season. Overall, Erwin has earned the award four times in her career.

Erwin and the Lady Toppers will close out the regular season with the match against New Mexico State on Friday night. It will also be Senior Night for Erwin and the other departing Lady Toppers. First touch is set for 6 p.m. at the WKU Soccer Complex.
