BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department has confirmed the deaths of two pedestrians following a vehicle collision early Friday morning.

BGPD public information officer Ronnie Ward said the fatal incident took place near midnight at Scottsville Road and Ken Bale Boulevard.

According to Ward, a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old was approaching a green light at Ken Bale Boulevard when the driver saw two pedestrians in the intersection and tried to stop. Ward said the back right side of the truck hit both pedestrians, identified as 32-year-old Christopher Mead and 48-year-old Christina Mead.

Ward said the mother and son were taken to The Med Center at Bowling Green, where they died.

According to Ward, Christina Mead was riding a motorized scooter at the time and another adult son of hers ran ahead and was not injured. Ward confirmed the pedestrians were “crossing against the signal” at the time of the collision but were not chasing the son who had crossed ahead.

Ward said the driver told police he had been driving 15 miles per hour over the speed limit.

At this time, Ward said no charges have been filed against the driver and the driver “fully cooperated with the investigation.”

We will provide an update as further information is released.
