Novo Dolce Talks Mocktails for Dry January

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For many people across the nation dry January has become a popular way to start out the New Year healthy and to take a break from the often boozy Holiday season. The mocktail is a fantastic way to not only ring in the New Year with something delightful to drink, but also maintain that healthier outlook.

At Novo Dolce in Bowling Green I caught up with Dalton Puckett who manages the Bar at the upscale eatery and cocktail bar. Dalton walked me through some of his pointers for a good mocktail.

“A popular one I make is a virgin mojito and that is it. What makes that so good is that it is fresh lime juice and fresh mint or basil and whatever else you want to throw in there. And it’s just soda. So it’s like there’s a little bit of sweetness to balance out the drink. But beyond that, it’s super straightforward. Like, no, I mean, if you want a sugary mocktail, go for it for sure. But like, it doesn’t have to be that way.” Puckett said.

The best way I learned to think about a mocktail is to literally make a cocktail and remove the alcohol. It seems that what works in one tends to work in the other and it doesn’t have to be sugary and sweet if you don’t want it to be.

One last thing that Dalton left me with is to think about how difficult a drink is to make. If it takes a lot of time and has tons of ingredients then it is going to get tiresome to make fifteen times. Think simple, that usually makes the drink taste good and makes the night easy to handle.
