Solar panels at Edmonson County High School

EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – As the Edmonson County High School’s engineering and electrical construction program enters it’s fourth year, they’re putting up new solar panels.

Some of the school’s students are working to bring a new power source to the district, for the first time in its history. Shane Wilson, who teaches the classes at the high school, told News 40 that the kids are getting some valuable skills from the class. They’re able to get certifications along with setting themselves up for success on a collegiate level if they choose to do so.

Wilson said everyone in his classes are eager to go to work and have been finding a lot of enjoyment out of the various things they do throughout the year, and will be able to do more once the school completes the construction on the new technical wing.

They’ve been working out of a temporary space for the last couple of months and are hoping to get the 4 panels up and running by the end of January to run some power to the trailer. They’re also working toward supplying power to the elementary school greenhouse when the time is right.
