44th “Cave Sing” at Mammoth Cave National Park

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – In cave country this past Sunday, hundreds of people gathered for a long time, underground tradition.

News 40 pulled up to Mammoth Cave National Park to catch a glimpse of the annual Cave Sing, one of the many interesting events that the park holds every year. Down in the rotunda of Mammoth, two groups graced audience members with the reverberating sounds of Christmas carols and old hymns.

It’s the 44th time they’ve invited the community out to the park and this year was one for the books. News 40 was told by park staff they were expecting around 800, but that they more than likely exceeded that number and surpassed last year.

Groups that sang told the station they’re always happy to spread the love of music, and with such a long history of cave performances at the park, it never gets old hearing music down below. Music has been in the cave since the 1880s and it doesn’t look like it will stop any time soon.
