Car care for the cold days

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As the days get shorter and the air gets cooler, it’s important to make sure your vehicle can withstand the temperatures to come.

News 40 spoke to both the local police as well as an automotive technician about some things that are good to keep track of as the seasons change, like your tire pressure.

George Beezel with Plum Springs Garage told News 40 that as the air gets colder, tires lose their air. Beezel also said your tread depth is another big part of your vehicle’s safety, making sure your tires properly grip the pavement is important. According to the tech, it’s also a good idea to check your antifreeze every now and then, antifreeze is crucial to stave off how the cold can affect your car.

Bowling Green police recommended routine maintenance as well but also keeping some supplies in your vehicle. You never know what can happen so some advice would be to keep some extra clothes and maybe a blanket in the car.

The police also said though it may be a hassle, if you’re expecting bad weather, fill your tank bank back up if it reaches the halfway mark and keep some extra phone chargers in your vehicle as well.
