New Christmas movie featuring Glasgow!

GLASGOW, Ky. – “A Royal Christmas Surprise” is about to hit BET+, and the big screen in Glasgow.

Hundreds of people are waiting to see the Christmas love story debut shot in small town Glasgow after crew from South Africa looked to the states for the second installment of their series. The Glasgow-Barren County Tourism Department told News 40 it was a huge team effort when the production set its sights on Glasgow but “having Christmas in April and May was pretty fun”.

You may wonder what prompted such a thing, and we have the answer. Executive Director MacLean Lessenberry told News 40 that the state actually gives some incentive to production companies to film in the Bluegrass to ramp up tourism. With this, their biggest movie boom yet, it should prove very good for the economy. Lessenberry said they don’t have the final numbers yet, but it’s sure to be a pretty significant amount of spending.

News 40 also talked to the owner of a small boutique that’s been in business for 15 years. Trendy Me Boutique’s Susan Simmons said she was honored to be part of such a cool thing and happy to contribute to Glasgow pride.

The coolest part just might be the free screening on November 30 for the town. It’s a free chance to see the final product with doors opening at the Marquee at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. News 40 spoke to cinema manager Valerie Goff said she was not able to audition to be one of the 300 extras in the movie, but she was happy to arrange a screening when approached by tourism. She said she thinks it will be great for the city and great for the theater.
