BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the last 12 years, Community Education has been raising money to help teens have a happy holiday, and they’re hoping to have a great deal of community support for year 13.

Joshua Smith, Assistant Director for Community Education told News 40 that they noticed a need in the community for teen support during the holidays and he along with several other community members put this idea together in 2010 to help local kids be able to celebrate the holidays.

Smith said if you recall when you were a teenager, you just wanted to fit in with everyone else and this Christmas drive helps them do that. Most of the money goes towards clothes but there are a few items picked out for entertainment as well and organizers are optimistic that donations will be close to last year if not more. Smith said at last year’s donation blast, they raised around 30,000 dollars in just one day.

This year’s donation blast will be on December 1 at two locations from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Starbucks on Scottsville Road, and the Scooter’s on 31-W in Bowling Green.

Crocker Law Firm also pledged to match donations this year, for hopefully an even merrier Christmas for the teens. Of course if you want to donate ahead of Dec. 1, just contact Community Education directly.
