This week highlights the dangers for crash responders

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – This week is meant to acknowledge those men and women who come running when there’s an accident on the road, a risky job on any day.

On Tuesday, the Kentucky State Police spoke about the importance of National Crash Responder Safety Week.

Wes Watt, who works with the Kentucky Department of Transportation, says it’s not uncommon for a second accident to occur as a result of improper conduct or just circumstance when crews are out on the road.

The station also spoke to local tow company, Jones Towing about the week.

Gary Jones, the owner, says it’s a good idea that such a week is out there. Jones said he isn’t certain enough people are aware of how dangerous the situations people like crash responders are in.

The next time you see a crash responder at the scene, slow down and proceed with caution.
