Throwback Thursday: Celebrating the Corvette’s 70th birthday

The very first Corvette rolled off the General Motors assembly line in Flint, Michigan, on
June 30, 1953. Last week, the National Corvette Museum welcomed the world to
celebrate this milestone birthday with a couple of exciting gifts to document this
moment in General Motors history.

The first is a new exhibit: An American Love Affair. Documenting the history of the
car with a special focus on the car’s major impact on pop culture and Hollywood, the
exhibit is shared on the all-new 360-degree Skywall inside the museum’s iconic
Skydome. Visitors to the exhibit are reminded of some of the most famous celebrity
Corvette owners and admirers through photos and film. Never forget Rock Hudson
and Farrah Fawcett’s Vettes, or Prince’s Little Red Corvette song.

The Corvette has been featured in Hollywood films of all types, with some of the
most famous celebrities of all time sitting behind the wheel. Never forget Elvis
Presley’s Corvette in 1967’s Clambake, the Sideswipe Corvette in the Transformers
series, Austin Powers’ super groovy Corvette, and so many more.

The Skydome has been the face of the National Corvette Museum since it opened in
1994, and this is the first time a full circle theatre experience has ever been created
in this space. The Skywall provides a next level experience for museum visitors and
gives the museum new opportunities to provide immersive experiences.

The National Corvette Museum is celebrating its 29th birthday this Labor Day, and
will bring an entire caravan of Corvette clubs to Bowling Green for its 30-year
milestone in 2024. Visit the museum’s site for more information about the car’s 70th
birthday and plan your visit.
