School board elections for Bowling Green Independent School District

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On the ballot this election season, you might see two names you recognize.

Cierra Waller, a Bowling Green native, is running for re-election to the Bowling Green Independent School District’s school board with her opposition being Janet Burks. News 40 reached out to both for comment, but we haven’t heard back from Janet just yet.

Waller visited the studio to talk about the election and her qualifications to which she said she’s been a part of educational policy since 2012. According to Waller, her day time job in administration at Western Kentucky University has prepared her to help serve on the board along with her desire to be as involved as possible with the district. Waller said she has a son that goes to the junior high and she has been a PTA parent for some time as well as sitting in on school based decision programs.

Waller told News 40 that it was after COVID she decided to throw her hat into the ring when she had to fill the role of teacher, nurse and lunch lady.

Waller said she’s an advocate for teachers as well as students. In her opinion, she feels she brings a different perspective to the district and wants nothing more to support students to help prepare them for the future.
